NEWS RELEASE

Richmond County Mosquito Spraying
(Augusta, Georgia) – Due to a significant increase in the mosquito population following
Hurricane Helene, Richmond County Health Department is currently using their truck-
mounted sprayers to spray for mosquitoes in Richmond County. As vectors of disease,
massive mosquito emergences such as the one we are experiencing now requires
broader response.
Since Hurricane Helene, a massive increase in mosquitoes has been found in our traps
and reported by residents. To assist with mosquito control, Richmond County Health
Department has been spraying streets and neighborhoods from their trucks.
The four truck-mounted ultra-low volume (ULV) sprayers use adulticide which will kill
adult mosquitoes on contact. Mosquito spraying will begin daily at 4:00 pm and continue
until after sundown. Richmond County Health Department uses only EPA approved
adulticide chemicals.
Spraying is one part of mosquito control. Residents are encouraged to apply mosquito
repellent and avoid going outside at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
To eliminate mosquito breeding habitat, tip and toss any items that hold standing water
around a residence. Wearing long sleeved shirts and pants is also helpful.
