Call the Breastfeeding Helpline for questions or concerns about breastfeeding, or to request a breast pump. You may listen to the automated messages, or hold the line for a breastfeeding counselor.
Breast Pump Loan Program
You may be qualified to borrow a breast pump if you:
Are a WIC participant.
Are returning to work or school.
Are experiencing a breastfeeding problem, or separation from your baby for a medical reason.
You may call your local health department, or the Breastfeeding Helpline (1-800-992-9708) for information.
More Food Vouchers
WIC mothers who are breastfeeding receive vouchers for more food items than mothers who are not breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding mothers may also stay on the WIC program LONGER than those who are not breastfeeding. (One year instead of six months.)
Prenatal Classes
Some health departments have breastfeeding classes.
You may call your local health department, or the Breastfeeding Helpline (1-800-992-9708) for information.
After Delivery Follow-up
You should call your local health department or the WIC Breastfeeding Helpline after your baby is born if:
You have questions or concerns about breastfeeding your baby.
Breastfeeding your baby hurts.
You need to have someone show you how to “latch-on” your baby.
